Driving on the continent can sometimes be a very daunting task. Aside from the obvious factor that you'll be driving on right side of the road, rather than the left, there's also many other factors that might cause you problems. Road layout might seem unusual, sign posts giving instructions in another language plus the fact that sometimes people on the continent drive more aggressively than their British counter parts can all lead to confusion!
Italy is particularly notorious amongst British holiday makers as many Italian motorists tend to drive in a manner that might seem reckless to us. This is particularly true off main roads in the countryside regions. So, if you're taking a holiday in a region such as Tuscany, take extra caution! Also, many of the Tuscany villas favoured by holiday makers are located on particularly narrow and poorly maintained roads or tracks. So if you're heading for A Tuscanny villa or other destination in the countryside then take care!
Also, to prevent getting lost in a foreign country it is also advisable to bring a sat nav with you! However, don't forget to make sure that it's updated with the latest European maps! Most sat navs will allow their users to download maps for European countries from the internet free of charge. It is also advisable to read up on the laws governing the roads of the country you're visiting, particularly speed limits. Speed limits are given in kph rather than mph, so make sure you know how fast you're meant to be driving!
