Learning to ride a motorcycle is quite different to learning to drive, although they are certain comparable aspects. For example, you will still need to know the highway code when learning to ride a bike, plus you will be required to sit a theory test and take a practical test much like those taken by people learning to drive a car, although there will obviously be certain differences between the contents of the motorcycle and driving test.
The main difference between learning to drive and learning to ride a motorcycle is the fact that before you can start taking lessons or the theory test for motorcycles you're legally required to undergo CBT, which stands for compulsory basic training. The purpose of this training is to help you to understand how a motorcycle functions and how to control it, plus some extremely important factors about road safety as riding a motorcycle can sometimes be quite risky.
There are also various restrictions on the type of bike you can ride depending on your age. Powerful bikes are restricted to people over a certain age who have passed further test. You need to acquire a 33bhp certificate to show that the bike you're riding complies to these restrictions. A more powerful bike can be restricted and most garages will be happy to carry this out and provide you with a 33bhp certificate. However, once you have passed the further test you will no longer need to ride with a restrictor and the 33bhp certificate will no longer be necessary.
